Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
